Modest fashion has become more and more sought after, for those who prefer to dress this way for religious reasons or simple personal preference.
Here at Beige, we love that we have such a diverse customer base of plus size women, and we do our best to cater for their tastes and requirements in our seasonal collections.
The term ‘modest fashion’ may conjure images of different things to different people, but while the term hasn’t quite become perfectly defined, the idea is that more retailers and shoppers alike are becoming aware of the need to cater to the wide range of consumers in a way that is still fashionable and inspiring, without relying solely on trends that often include shorter hemlines, crop tops and sleeveless styles. Whilst we love to encourage plus size women to dress confidently and to embrace and flaunt their fabulous figures, we acknowledge that many ladies of all shapes and sizes simply prefer to dress in a way that is more covered up, and we’re happy to share some inspiration for how to do this creatively.
Layering a long dress or tunic over matching trousers is a timeless chic look – match fabrics, or simply colour block your pieces, to create a simple elegant outfit that easily pairs together. We love this all black look from Persona by Marina Rinaldi for effortless glam, or the yellow floral Piero Moretti two-piece outfit for a sunny pop of colour. The cool grey knitted outfit by Verpass is a perfect casual fit for chilly winter days.
Turtleneck tops and sweaters are a key styling piece for modest fashion, that can really change the direction of a trendy coordinating jacket and trousers, like this outfit from Alembika, or the bold blue waistcoat look by Verpass. Colour block your cardigans with a matching turtleneck sweater and trousers, like this piece by Elena Miro, for cosy, comfortable chic.
The most effortless item of all is a modest dress. Look for buttoned up shirt dresses or mock-neck details with long sleeves, and layer over leggings or tight with a pair of heeled boots for extra coverage. Make a statement in this abstract printed dress by Yoek, or for a neutral option, this olive green shirt dress by Elena Miro is a versatile number that will seamlessly take you from work to weekend. For special occasions, this baby blue chiffon dress by Marina Rinaldi is a beautiful option.
Midi and maxi skirts add a lovely feminine touch to your modest fashion look. Match a high neck sweater by pulling colours from the pattern of your skirt into your chosen sweater, like this gorgeous pleated Piero Moretti style. For a fashion forward twist, go head to toe in the same print with the brown animal print by plus size designer Marina Rinaldi, or the black and grey look from the same brand.
We hope that this has inspired you to find new ways of experimenting with modest style in your plus size wardrobe, and would love to see how you style your own Beige Plus purchases. Follow our Instagram page for even more style inspiration.
