Working for Beige Plus as assistant to Beige’s Creative Director and Head Buyer Leanda Walters – I’ve had the privilege of viewing many different collections. It’s given me a taste for quality.
When you’re looking at a myriad of garments, what makes one piece stand out from all the others? For me, it has to be quality – the way the seams are stitched, the proportions and of course how the garment feels to the touch. Beige’s mission statement is to offer the very best in plus size designer clothing. This means that the Beige buying team has to be ultra-selective with the garments we choose.
When I select a garment one of the first things I do is check the fabric content label. If there’s one thing that will instantly pique my interest it’s a high wool content. No synthetic fibre comes close to wool in terms of breathability, comfort, quality and endurance. For some reason, humankind has never been able to replicate the magic of wool.
The Essential Wool Designer Plus Size Sweater
Every woman’s autumn/winter capsule wardrobe should contain a few well-chosen high-quality wool sweaters. Buy woollen sweaters in block colours and they will form the foundations of literally hundreds of different outfits. Versatile and comfortable – a classic wool sweater is the perfect vehicle for your favourite accessories. Use it to showcase your favourite statement necklace or a fabulous Hermes scarf. The benefit of a sweater with a high wool content is that it’s less likely to pill and if cared for correctly will last several seasons.
The statement knit
Whilst a simple and classic wool sweater is unquestionably essential, sometimes a girl needs something a little more sensational. That’s when it’s time to break out the statement knit. From argyle to fair isle to intarsia wool can come in many fabulous guises.
One of my favourite picks for this season has to be this decadent intarsia sweater from Elena Miro. The stunning monochrome intarsia pattern is set off with sequins and silver thread – making it a real occasion piece.
I also love this abstract print sweater from Per te by Krizia – with shades of damson, teal, camel and colbalt it’s totally eye-catching and will look sensational under the lush beige designer plus size cardigan also by Per te de Krizia.
Whether you’re dressing for business or leisure a classic wool dress can be styled and accessorised many different ways. For an office look add court shoes and a tweed jacket. For a weekend look it’s brown suede boots and a statement necklace. The benefit of wool is that it’s deliciously stretchy and comfortable and will naturally accommodate your curves.
Invest in a coat that’s made to last…
Wool is always a good idea. It’s an enduring fabric that – if cared for correctly- may even be passed on to the next generation.
When it comes to coats nothing come close to the craftsmanship of the House of Max Mara. It’s a privilege to be able to bring our customers Max Mara’s plus size sister brand Marina Rinaldi. I believe that every well-heeled woman should own at least one coat from the iconic Italian fashion house and the most certainly includes women who are a size 18+.
This black revere collar wool coat by Marina Rinaldi is a stone-cold classic. Made from 100% pure wool it’s absolutely timeless. Buy now, wear forever.
Whilst every woman needs a classic black coat that’s the epitome of good taste and elegance – some of us have a flamboyant side too. I know I certainly do…that’s why I adore this sensational hot pink hooded statement coat by Marina Rinaldi. It’s pure fashion! I see it styled with a jewel colour velvet YSL handbag and a splash of Prince of Wales check. This coat is specifically tailored with the plus size woman in mind so embrace high fashion and go boldly forward.
